Thanks, Winter and What’s to Come
LC is ready to come inside
I’m watching the snow fall on the back alley from my desk. The sliding glass door to the balcony overlooks the back alley and garage here in Chicago. I’m dog sitting. Today LC got his first taste of snow since February-ish. The seasons are changing, and so too the projects shifts gears.
This will be a quick check in.
Since last I’ve posted it’s been a busy fall. Aptly a season of harvest because I was able to do four field recordings and portrait sessions while in Asheville and Brasstown North Carolina. Those trips were back at the start of the trees changing and temperatures dropping. It was a beautiful time to get out in the woods. The audio is with Bill Holland who is working on mixing and mastering, and Lindsey Marks is ready to go with the video edit. So we’re in process.
Following those sessions I had an opportunity to visit Spain, where I saw some amazing flamenco guitar players and made some contacts and connections if we’re able to take this project international. I learned more about olive oil than I ever knew there was to learn.
Now it’s snowing. We’ve got a legit winter storm passing through Chicago. The streets are covered. The sidewalk needs to be shoveled. There is a hot chocolate that needs to be drank… drunk… drinked(?).
Since I don’t want to shovel, I want to lay out the next couple weeks whats going on with the project. As I briefly mentioned above, the audio and video of those field recordings is being processed. It takes a long time to produce good content, and thats the priority. So they’ll be done when they’re done. I’ve got the photos edited, and those will be released shortly after the field recordings.
Settling into winter I want to start working on some luthier interviews and photo sessions. It’s a lot easier to work inside a woodshop than out in the woods this time of year. So if you’ve got referrals please pass them along. We haven’t done one of these yet, so it’ll be a fun learning curve to tackle.
This is also a good season to start reading some books about trees. I’ve got a stack and as I tackle those I’ll be posting some interesting quotes and information that emerges from them.
And then early into the new year I’ll start planning my next photoshoots and recording sessions to begin in the Spring.
Lastly, before I put on my boots and set out to shovel, I just want to thank everyone that has participated, helped, worked on, and checked out this project. It’s proving to be something that I keep coming back to between paid jobs that consistently gives me energy and hope. If you know someone that may be interested in it, please help grow the community and share where you can.
